Privateers send two singles players, copies group in DII region tennis

PORT CLINTON

Perkins will have two singles players and a copies group advance to the Division II young ladies region tennis competition after the opening rounds of sectional challenge, which began Thursday, finished up Friday at the Von Thron-Halbliztel Tennis Center at Port Clinton High School.

Sectional elimination round and last matches will be played today.

The Pirates’ top-seeded Emma Lynch will take on Emma Trost of Norwalk in one elimination round, with Perkins colleague Diana Schoder, the third seed in the singles draw, meeting second-seeded Rayven Whyde of Bellevue.

In pairs activity, Perkins’ Ryleigh Keller and Abriye Skelton will take on second-seeded Mara Berry and Alexa Moore of Norwalk in one elimination round matchup.

Different pairs semi will have top-seeded Megan Berry and Gabby Horowitz of the Truckers taking on third-seeded Nathalie Cziesla and Emma Strudhoff of Clyde.

The best four singles players and duplicates groups advance to Bowling Green State University of elimination round activity on Thursday, with the finals back at Port Clinton next Saturday.

Lynch lost only one game in two matches on her way to the semis, while Trost dropped only two games in two matches.

Whyde and Schoder each earned three straight-set successes to proceed onward.

The two Norwalk pairs groups dropped only five games between them to arrive at the semis, while Cziesla and Strudhoff held off Trinity Bibler and Greta Gross in their subsequent match, 7-5, 6-1, and beat Leighann Motley and Sage Garcia of Bellevue, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.

Keller and Skelton required three sets to turn back Alaina Dackermann and Hannah Cross of Port Clinton, 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-3, to fit the bill for area play.

The best four singles players and duplicates groups at the area will progress to the state meet Oc.t 18-19 at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

At Vermilion, Norwalk played Vermilion to a 1-1 stop Thursday night at Vermilion.
